Yin/Nidra

This restorative class combines the benefits of a Yin sequence followed by a Yoga Nidra experience. The Yin portion of the class involves complete rest, promoting health through postures supported by bolsters and other props. We work very hard in our lives, and while we may sleep, we rarely take time to rest. Yin yoga poses help us learn to relax and rest deeply and completely. Yoga Nidra literally means “the Yoga of Sleep”. It is a conscious relaxation practice where you will experience a deep state of release while maintaining complete awareness. This hybrid practice assists in easing tensions of the body and mind and provides relief from anxiety, fatigue, and stress while improving sleep and concentration.

Multi class passes do not expire

Ashley Stevick, RYT 200

Hey there! I'm Ashley. The image on the right is from my first week at yoga teacher training. The other is me after one year of practicing Baptiste yoga. Seeing these pictures side by side threw me for quite a loop. I started YTT with tightness in my back that, at age 35,  prevented me from standing straight up in  the morning. Repetitive motion and nerve damage through my right arm, wrist, and neck meant a lightning bolt of pain through my entire arm when opening a water bottle. My body is still tender sometimes; this isn't a cure-all or magical elixir. But I can do things on my mat and in my life I didn't think were possible.

I'm not a doctor; I'm a yogi. :) And this is my experience with this practice. What works for me may not work for you, and you should always listen to your own body.  I have found the more I do this practice, the more I can do. I didn't start off in wheel with one leg in the air or handstand. I couldn't hold myself in low plank for months. I eventually, little by little, made my way into these poses. You are welcome to come to class, try part of the sequence, take a resting pose, try a little more, rest, repeat. My body learned this practice by doing this practice. And while yoga is about so much more than the physical poses, the physical benefits of this practice absolutely blow my mind.

I teach power yoga in the style of Baron Baptiste, yin yoga, and yoga nidra. I attended yoga teacher training at Namaspa in Bend, Oregon, and am a certified and registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance. Namaspa is a Baptiste Affiliate and I highly recommend catching a class at either their Bend or Redmond studio if you get a chance! Since completing Namaspa's intensive 200 hour yoga teacher training in Spring 2018, I've attended additional trainings including Unstoppable Baptiste Yoga for Youth through the Baptiste Foundation and Art of True North Alignment by the Baptiste Institute.

I moved to John Day, Oregon from Montana in April 2016. I feel at home among the mountains and I love being on the river. I am dog mom to Miles and an amateur gardener. In addition to teaching yoga, I help out at Little Canyon Food Cart. My initial entrepreneurial venture as a wedding, family, and boudoir photographer began in 2011 in Bozeman, Montana. I currently sell landscape and abstract nature photography around town, at ashleystevick.com and occasionally take on photo projects.
